In the morning, you’ll visit a Buddhism shrine, the Jade Buddha Temple, located in the midst of Shanghai’s urban landscape. It is named for its two bejeweled white jade Buddha statues. Carved from a whole piece of white jade, the sitting jade Buddha statue is translucent with a solemn expression, displaying the excellent skill and extraordinary artistry of Chinese craftsmen.

Next, visit the Yuyuan Garden with its many scenic courtyards decorated with baroque rockery, pools, and flora all connected by corridors and passageways. Then you’ll visit a Silk factory to learn about traditional silk production. Your shopping adventure will begin on Nanjing Road, which starts at the Bund and runs westward, with People’s Square in the middle. Renowned for its bustling atmosphere and modernization, Nanjing Road has earned its reputation as the ‘First Commercial Road in China’ – a shopping paradise comparable to New York’s Fifth Avenue or Paris’s Avenue des Champs-Élysées.

You’ll also visit the famous Bund, Shanghai’s most iconic waterfront district. The word “Bund” is of Anglo-Indian origin meaning embankment on the waterfront. Finally, you’ll see the Oriental TV Tower (outside view) in Pudong New Area, which stands at a height of 468 meters and has become a symbol of modern Shanghai.

Today you’ll visit Zhujiajiao, an ancient water town located in a suburb of Shanghai with a history spanning more than 1,700 years. Covering an area of 47 square kilometers, this fan-shaped town glimmers like a bright pearl in the landscape of lakes and mountains. Endowed with the elegant name ‘Pearl Stream,’ Zhujiajiao is the best-preserved among Shanghai’s four ancient towns. After exploring this charming water village with its bridges, canals, and traditional architecture, you’ll return to Shanghai to visit the Shanghai Museum, home to over 120,000 pieces of Chinese art and cultural artifacts.
