Millions of wildebeests, zebras, and gazelles traverse the Serengeti in search of food and water during the breathtaking Great Migration. Take in the stunning scenery that serves as a rich backdrop for game drives while getting up close and personal with Africa's "Big Five."

You will get the chance to interact with local Maasai communities and learn about their centuries-old traditions as you travel through Tanzania's most famous landscapes. Your safari experience is enhanced by these cultural interactions, which combine animal observation with a greater comprehension of Tanzania's history.

Known for their colorful attire and close ties to the land, the Maasai people invite tourists to experience their rich oral traditions and distinctive pastoral way of life. A close look into the daily life of the Maasai is given by this genuine cultural exchange, which strengthens ties to the history and people of the area.

This trip promises to be a rewarding and immersive experience, from the excitement of witnessing species in their native habitats to the peace and quiet of the African scenery. Whether it's a guided walking safari, an early morning wildlife drive, or a visit to a typical Maasai community, there's something new to discover every day.

The Great Migration in Serengeti National Park

One of nature's most breathtaking displays is the Great Migration in Serengeti National Park when more than two million wildebeest, zebras, and gazelles travel over the expansive plains in quest of water and new pasture.

The periodic rains that determine the herds' migration are the driving force behind this yearly trek, which covers more than 1,000 kilometers. The migration is a never-ending cycle in which the animals must overcome several obstacles, including traversing rivers teeming with crocodiles, avoiding deadly predators, and weathering severe weather.

The migration's most dramatic moments occur during these river crossings, particularly at the Mara and Grumeti Rivers, when lions, crocodiles, and hyenas are poised to prey on weaker animals.

The migration is an important occurrence for the ecosystem as a whole, in addition to being a survival instinct for the species involved. By feeding on older grasses and creating space for new growth, the herds help keep the grasslands healthy as they traverse the Serengeti.

For those fortunate enough to see it, the breathtaking scenery of the Serengeti and the size of the migration make for an experience they won't soon forget.

Weather & Best Time to Visit

Your interests will determine the best time to visit Tanzania; safaris are most enjoyable during the dry season, which runs from June to October.

This is especially true in the Serengeti, when the Great Migration and Mara River crossings take place. Because animals congregate around water sources, this season offers bright days, comfortable temperatures, and good wildlife visibility.

November through December brings warm, brief showers that revitalize the environment without significantly interfering with travel plans, making it a more tranquil time of year with fewer people. In the southern Serengeti, the wildebeest calving season occurs during the brief dry period of January to February.

This draws predators and creates breathtaking animal views. Although there are fewer tourists and more beautiful landscapes during the major rainy season, which runs from March to May, some roads may become difficult to navigate.
